The Hampton Court Palace Flower Show
For many people Hampton Court Flower Show is the start to the summer proper. The show is set around the long canal, against the backdrop of the Hampton Court Palace, and as well as agreat flower show, it is a really good day out in the country. If you want to make it a really memorable day out you can take the park and ride facility, and then take in the short trip along the river thames to arrive at the show in real style.
The Hampton Court Flower Show is one of the premier gardening events of the year
This year there are a few changes in the show to recognise this , the 21st anniversary of the show. The 225m long flower marquee (which in itself is a flower show) will be on the North side of the showground. (usually it is on the south). To replace it on the south side is a Garden Illustrated Marquee where plant and garden accessories are being shown among gorgeous displays.
For those more interested in productive gardening rather then ornamental, there is a major Home Grown Feature. The gardens will have a quitessentially English feel due to the shakespearean theme. This should provide inspiration to all gardeners, and have relevance to your own garden.
One of the currently very relevant show gardens of particular interest is in celebration of the Bee. Anything that can encourage the re-establishment of our seriously declining bee population is to be applauded. The garden will attract interest from a large spectrum of people as it has an interactive sculpture based on a natural bee hive as its central feature.
Let us hope that the weather will be warm and sunny, to enhance the scent of the festival of roses, at which the ‘rose of the year’will be announced.Roses remain one of the nations best loved flowers.
There are over 600 shopping opportunities and 90 displays in the Floral Marquee as well as the Show gardens and other displays, so this should be a great day out for all the family.
