Adding Natural Fertilizer To Improve Your Garden

To have healthy soil that will produce healthy plants, the soil will require organic matter. It is that which allows the soil to retain water better and hold nutrients. To keep the plants from dying it must be able to absorb the water from the soil. Another thing is that the soil must be able to hold nutrients, this is vital for strong healthy plants.

Using natural fertilizers in your garden will help improve the soil. By using natural fertilizers there is a better chance you will not burn the plant if you over apply it, and it will not soak into the groundwater.

The organic material that is made in the soil will in no way be harmed by adding natural fertilizer. When added it will give it a boost. A large complement of minerals ranging from nitrogen to phosphorous for plant growth is contained in natural fertilizer.

You will need to be aware that natural fertilizer will have very small amounts of nutrients, when compared to other fertilizers that are more concentrated. When you do start to add it to your garden be prepared for the extra long time it will take in addition to the work required to add it to the plants.

This type of fertilizer will usually be all natural bio degradable such as vegetable peelings, compost, lawn waste, manure and so on. As time goes the material will begin to decompose, soon after bacteria and fungi will aid in the decomposition process. Learning how to compost yourself is simple and will have great rewards.

It takes awhile for the bacteria and fungi to break down natural fertilizers. And in order for the plants to make the nutrients it needs from the organic matter, a lot of more time will be needed. That’s why you need to plan ahead when you decide to use natural fertilizers.

More often than not natural fertilizer can cost more than just regular fertilizer. Just like organic food, natural fertilizer will cost more. That is why most people prefer to use chemical fertilizers as opposed to natural fertilizers.

But you should not base your decision on price when choosing fertilizer. Adding natural fertilizer to your garden will have many advantages. Though natural fertilizers may produce slower results and are far from cheap, they are more cost effective, like you well begin to notice over time.

Before you begin adding anything to the soil it will be wise to do a soil test. This is needed because you want to know what type of soil your garden has, whether it is loamy, sandy, or clay.

After soil testing you should also try to bring nutrient levels up to adequate levels before even attempting to add natural fertilizers. By doing this you will now only need to apply natural fertilizer as a supplement for needed nutrients. As time goes by the plants will absorb many nutrients from the soil, when this occurs then you should again apply more natural fertilizer.
