Chemical or Organic Fertilizer—You Pick
Even a veteran farmer may get perplexed by the varieties of organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer available in the market nowadays. Some gardeners may also get tempted to just buy commercial fertilizers rather than go through the trouble of making their own.
A rule of thumb in gardening and agriculture is to weigh the benefits and disadvantages of using each kind of fertilizer prior to buying in wholesale.
An organic fertilizer can improve the soil quality by enhancing the environment for beneficial microorganisms and animals to grow.
Soil beneficial organisms break down organic material into components that the plants can utilize. The earthworms around the crops loosen the soil for better root growth. Organic fertilizer utilization will boost the population of these advantageous soil organisms and will benefit your crops in the long run.
You can maintain mineral stability in the soil by applying organic fertilizers that will not upset the balance. The effects of these fertilizers aren’t only for the existing crop but also for future planting. Organic matter when replenished with soil fertilizers will always be available no matter how many times you till the soil.
While organic fertilizers are in style now that gardeners are becoming conscious of the dangers of soil exhaustion, they’re still not as readily available as commercial chemical fertilizers. You either have to import them from another state, create your own or purchase them at a higher price compared to commercial fertilizers.
How can organic fertilizers contend with the fast-release formulations out there? This slow release effect is a common reason why some gardeners prefer the synthetic fertilizers.
Even if there’s a kind of liquid organic fertilizer that shows the same rapid release action, most of the organic matter in these fertilizers is allowed to organically decay in the soil, making mineral assimilation slower.
